The First

I s'pose I'm starting this blog not only to keep a record of the amazing things in everyday life I see for myself, but also to share with others the things I've come across. I've seen lots of things I would call 'miraculous' in my wanderings, and as for recording, here is the first:

We went to San Francisco today to drop off Papa at the airport. After he left, we parked and wandered around in the shopping area, and we were in line for the cablecar. Near the turntable there was this guy doing 'rhythm tap'. His name was Edward Jackson. He was bald and black. He was tapping - shoes and all - on this wooden board with a stereo next to it. Then he moved on to surrounding poles and sewer manhole covers and things, and for about twenty minutes he was just going tap, taptap, ta-tap, ta-taptap, tap. He was literally dripping sweat by the time he started his next bit, in his toffee pair of Lady Enyce pants. Then this old woman in woven cowboy boots came up with a handkerchief and wiped his head and neck mid-dance, and gave him her hankie when she was done. People clapped for her, and I clapped for Edward when he was done. When I looked for the lady after Edward's dance, she was nowhere in sight.
